Visitkynouria store at the Tyros beach
We organized a beautiful hiking trip in Tyros with a Tsakonian food experience by local’s.
A hiking tour that everyone can do it.
On a 4-hour journey we will learn the town.
It is one of the ancients naval states of Eastern Peloponnesus, and the residents of Tyros are inextricably bounded to the sea and the naval profession, keeping on a long tradition.
It lies indolently on the slope and reaches the sea at a wonderful bay, with a beach 2 km long just on the waves, where you can take a nice walk breathing the sea breeze.
It’s a rapidly developing tourist resort, that every year many more Greek and European tourists prefer for their vacation, in order to enjoy the clean beaches of the 18 km long coastline.
The visitors will find here hotels and rent rooms of all categories, malls, restaurants and cafe-bars for any taste. The three windmills located on the top of the rock, steeply dip into the sea on the southern end of the harbor, which, after its recent extension is able to shelter even larger crafts, whose masts beautify the place and give a nice, islander touch.
Food experience: At a traditional tavern prepare classic Tsakonian – Greek recipes using the fresh and seasonal produce that’s a fixture of the region’s cuisine. Learn insider tips on preparation and presentation, and pick up invaluable Greek cooking secrets along the way. At the end of your lesson, enjoy your finished dishes accompanied by local wine and ouzo.
Tyros is called after Apollonius Tyrita, who was worshiped in this area. At the spot where the chapel of Prophet Elias is built on the homonymous hill in Melana, are found remains of a temple dedicated to the ancient God. Recent excavations in Socha area at the plateau of Paliochora Tyrou, revealed ancient tombs of the Mycenaean period. In addition, at the same plateau and about at an altitude of 680m, it is located the Dersios cavern, famous from the ancient times and lately being explored by Greek and foreign speleologists.
